Duo Berkendael

Magdalena and Tomasz joined their forces while studying at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels where they both graduated with distinction and actively performed together in various chamber music ensembles. As a duo they debuted with a contemporary composition of Betsy Jolas - Musique pour Delphine. Having this experience, they decided to expand their repertoire for this particular formation. They perform a variety of original works composed for a string duo, including compositions by J.Haydn, L.van Beethoven, M.Ravel, Z.Kodaly, E.Schulhoff, B.Martinu, as well as arrangements and contemporary music. Magdalena and Tomasz also collaborate with many pianists performing various repertoire for piano trios, piano quartets as well as baroque ensembles.

Their common passion for chamber music influenced their work as teachers. In 2015-2016 they were faculty members at the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation in Bombay, India, where they introduced chamber music classes and performances. While based in India, Duo Berkendael performed regularly on various occasions, including European Union celebrations in New Delhi and Mumbai, Art Chamber Festival in Goa, and appearances in acclaimed venues, such as the National Centre for Performing Arts and Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai. In 2019 the Duo had a privilege to share the stage with world renowned Indian musicians: Zakir Hussain, Rakesh Chaurasia and Sabir Khan.
